Those machines are the king of gay dude, like seriously no better than any of the other stupid proprietary bullshit that Compuq, Dell, IBM, HP and Sony are putting out.
The way to go is to slap together your own parts. Buy an Intel MB, Intel CPU, Serial ATA hd, 2 gigs of ram, 128 meg videocard, and you're set. You never have to rely on lame-ass manufacturers that the large computer companies buy cheap parts from for as cheap as they can get them for. And amazingly the drivers will be available more often than not years down the road. Wow, amazing!
Unfortunately Alienware is in the same boat with the major ones I listed, throwing a bunch of shit in a box. That's not the way to go.
