well, $1,700 for an appeal is cheap. Most appeals start in the area of $3K and go up fast.

If they screwed you out of $1.6K, maybe you count it as payment on your education. Have been in similar situations and learned to get a retainer up front. Usually half. That way it doesn't hurt as bad.

The other thing I do now before providing too much consulting or effort is check out the client. Has anyone else had problems. A trip to the court house will reveal if anyone else sued 'em. That can be done online in a lot of places now.

As for your current problem, I think it would be worth while to check out the court records on them. There may be a telling story???

You cold always appeal yourself, but that would take a ton of time in the law library.
