I dont think its leading to a military takeover but I do believe that anyone who thinks oil is the best option is hardly aware of the long term situation. If someone were to take the longest view possible, arguing in favor of space colonization is easy as within approximately 2 million years our sun will begin expanding into a giant. Eventually the earth will be cooked clean and then destroyed - so - why not go now?

That view is a bit far-sighted for me but its the same idea as the oil situation is today, only a *much* smaller scale. There is plenty of oil left, yes. Alaska alone has enough to sustain 2 idustrialized nations for decades and we wont even get started with whats under the Russian tundra. However, it is going to run out. Period. There is no question of this, no guessing if its possible. It is the truth. So, why rely on something so limited? The truth is, the age of oil is drawning closer to an end, yes. Within this decade? Hell no.

There will be no military takeover within our lifespans.. At least, not one regarding oil. I do think there's an entirely separate issue of our eroding civil liberties right now that poses are FAR greater risk to our country. Everyone knows the old saying about the Holocaust; "They came for so-and-so and I we said nothing, etc etc" but for some ungodly reason no one feels a need to apply it here. Why?! You have less legal rights this year than last. You had less last year than the year before that. Go figure.

You think its impossible for some overzealous Fed to decide that trafficking porn is a form of Social Terrorism? Suddenly the Patriot Act applies. Now youre screwed. No lawyer, no rights, no trial. Done.

Go figure.
