hmmm.... if i really was going to give big money to charity i think it would be some medical research but i'd have to research it well to give it to some university that I could see is making progress and i'd definitely want to see where my money goes.
So many of these charities have way too high an administrative overhead. I've read that MDA, the Jerry Lewis muscular dystrophy one, has an obscene amount of administrative costs that go for bullshit.
I do believe that charity begins at home - if there are family members that need help, they come first - after that, it's people in the place that you live. So local food banks, youth centers, battered women shelters, suicide hotlines etc
but then you have to think about who is the most desperate.... so you have some 15 year old in your town who can't get along with his parents so they hit the streets and they're on drugs and going nowhere ........ then you have some starving infant in Africa who needs medical care and food just to survive ......... how do you give money to a youth shelter in your city before you give to a fund that will save the starving kid in Africa?
decision is much too tough ..... better to keep the money and put it away for a nice big screen TV or a ride em lawn mower.
