So, I try to log on to one of my sites Wednesday, and ... nothing...
I call the friend of mine who takes care of my hosting, and get no answer. I try him on ICQ, but he does not respond, even though he is there. I figure he's busy getting it online or something...
Yesterday, he still won't respond, so I do a little research and I find out who actually hosts the servers. It turns out that it's someone I know from webmaster chat rooms past. Apparently, my friend (won't mention his name, but many of you know him and he is most likely reading this thread) hasn't paid his bill in 4 months, even though he has been taking my money for half that long. The guy who runs the actual hosting will only turn my server back on if I switch over to him, but the server wasn't that great in the first place, so I declined.
Yesterday, I call a local (L.A.) host, recommended by a friend, and they offer a very nice deal. I check around, and make sure the deal isn't too good to be true. It's not, but it's still real good. They quote me $199 for start-up and h-sphere thrown in. I get an email from their accounting dept., saying that my c/c was declined (they copied the #'s down wrong, as near as I can figure) and they are charging me $397 for set-up etc. Oy! I called them this afternoon, and they tell me that the guy I talked to wasn't authorized to make the deal he made me. I gave them instructions as to where the new deal might be dorsally inserted.
Anyway, I was e-mailing Lensman about his offer to help on conversion ratios, and his remark about hosting was to go with Jupiter. I checked them out, and it's not a bad deal for what I'm looking for (learning the TGP game, after years as an avs guy.)
No actual questions to ponder here, just dumping. This is not the first hosting nightmare I've gone through.
