Anyone who makes their career decision based upon the average salary is going to be one very unhappy person.
Really, while there is a lot of argument going on here, there are merits to both sides. It all depends on exactly what you want to do and who you want to work for. You'll be unable to even submit a resume without a college degree for some jobs, while other people could care less. And quite honestly the only time your degree or what college you attended is REALLY inportant is for your first job out of school.
And don't kid yourself . . . a good business background is very important. I'd recommend at least a minor in it, if not a double major if school is your choice.
Personally, I have a business degree, but if I could do it all over again I'd have probably just taken community college courses in accounting, business, and computer fields.
