To My British Friend
We Yanks know as well as any the inclination of most people (and Governments) to repress those ideas with which we cannot agree.
Thats why the FIRST AMMENDMENT, was made FIRST,not second or third or twentyfourth. The Bill of rights itself was created as something of a compromise between states which purposefully restricts the power of the Federal Government,and attempts to ensure that every idea has equal access to a public forum exactly because of that inclination, not in spite of it.
Those people have as much right to make their views known as you or I, however much we may disagree with them.I say bring every idea out into the open and may the best idea prevail,it's our ability to disagree with one another more or less peacfully that continually makes us stronger.By the way, Washington, Jefferson, and Madison got most of their best ideas from British Philosophers.You know, the rights of Man and all that stuff.
