Cigarettes and liquor were cheaper as I recall in Europe than here. $1.79/gallon for gas sucks, $45/carton Marlboro Lights sucks worse, and $10US for decent wine. Cigarettes in Europe were about half US prices when I was there, and good wine was $2 or $3 a bottle. Of course if you factor in the exchange rate nowadays. The UK, well, GBP were always killing the dollar but now it's worse, nearly 2:1. Time to start billing in pounds and euros :-)
