I would do the following here..
1. Talk to the bank manager / area manager for the bank and tell them with any info that you have showing when the account was closed out.
This will show that you took your biz elsewhere to another bank and why is their bank holding you liable for charges on an account that no longer is active.
2. Talk to AOL - Tell them that you cancelled your account on date X and since then, can they please tell you the usage on your account. AOL can tell your usage. If there is no usage, you are golden.
Have the dates that you closed the bank account, the dates you closed the AOL account to prove that you are in the right here and maybe fell thru the cracks. Dont settle for a clerk or level 1 AOL rep. Ask for managers to talk to and explain the suitation.
I had to go thru this when I moved once about 3 years ago with my old bank and AOL. These businesses have tons of customers and most people just blindly pay their bills and dont read / dont follow on things when there are issues. Just be persistent.
