EXCERPT:
"The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday overwhelmingly approved legislation imposing sharply higher fines on television and radio broadcasters who violate indecency limits...a top government official and several lawmakers also questioned whether the bills violate free speech rights.
The House bill, approved 391-22, would give the Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites) the authority to fine broadcasters as much as $500,000 per violation and apply large penalties against on-air personalities who willfully break the rules."
