Depends what kind of site you run and how you want people to perceive you...
For example, on our adult dating site, the only programs we are affiliates for are for products that our members could see as 'added value' to the site. Sex toys, pharamcies...
We don't use banners though, but use it in more subtle ways. This happens to not bother our members, while increasing our conversions with our sponsors.
