How do you gain control of your life?
I think first step is to realize control is only an illusion, that life will deal you what it wishes, and there are so many other variables in this world that can and will affect you.
So how do you gain control?
By first relinquishing it...and realizing that you only have a short time on this planet and you may die tomorrow parachuting out of a plane or reading your favorite magazine while sittingon the toilet.
Once you realize that so many more options open up to you...options that were there but your attempt at control blinded you to them.
