And why would you pay for the video upfront? I know you don't care about the money lost, but shit man, that's asking for trouble. I've adopted a new policy with just about every service I use... no upfront payments. Sure you have many designers and programmers that all "require half or full upfront", but once you have a name that rarely applies.
Good luck on getting your second video. Oh and if Private Ivy reads this and is half the business woman she claims to be, she should seriously consider dropping Heather. I would never want anyone closely associated with me dragging my name and reputation through mud.
