IMO, Google has a grasp of the net better than Microsoft - when you consider that all of MicroSoft's net ventures can be launched to it's existing customer base (which basically IS the net)... google had to start from scratch -- a user base of 0.

But now the tables have turned... and the scary part is everyone basically loves google (vs not so much love for MicroSoft)

Google is being put into a HUGE place of power here...

And with their move to Email/Webmail, their power is going to grow exponentially.

Google will have the power to influnce online purchasing decisions before nearly everyone else...

If google started auctions.google.com do you think eBay would shit bricks?

Or dating.google.com, or whatever.google.com..... bottom line is they would dominate whatever they go after.

Whatever market they want - they can have or they can have major influence over.
