here's a test to see if your computer is protected from hacking

here's a test to see if your computer is protected from hacking:

i can't give the exact urls,
so follow my instructions:
1) visit http://www.grc.com/
2) click image to enter
3) 1st test: under 'news & events' click on 'shields up!'
4) 2nd test: click 'test my shields'
5) 3rd test: click 'probe my ports'

my results (with NIS enabled) are as follows:

1st test: says, 'greetings!', as opposed to 'greetings HQ!', so it can't read my username.

2nd test: can't connect, port 139 doesn't seem to exist, and can't connect to NetBIOS.

3rd test: all ports are stealth, same as if my computer was unplugged.

believe me, you'll fail all these test if you have no firewall on your windows PC. fuck, it'll even show the folders you have shared. if you're sharing shit across your lan without a firewall, you're sharing it to everyone who can connect to the internet.

protect yourself now, don't wait.

...and continue to visit www.grc.com , the guy is awesome. his site kicks-ass for hacking info; and that's the only way to protect yourself.

oh yeah, you should check out this page too (it's all about securing your network, sharing files and printers, on a windows PC):
