Digital 8 is a proprietary Sony technology. It allows you to record digitally on a regular 8mm tape like analog cams, and they have the firewire connection so you can edit them on your PC just like the DV format.
However the cameras are bigger, and you only get to choose from Sony, and I guess the picture quality isn't as good as the more expensive DV cameras. They are great if you are on a budget though.
I don't know the specifics of the models you mentioned, but your best bet is to go to the various camcorder review sites you can find in the search engines. Sites like Cnet can also be helpful as their reviews include comments from people that have actually bought the camera so you get a good idea of its weak points.
