I think most experts agree the reason the building collapsed is because of the huge amounts of heat from enough fuel burning to carry that plane across the country. They definitely planned that.
As for the building surviving the crash - it did. It didn't topple. So the guy was right. The architects should be proud. Imagine how many more people would be dead if it had... everyone inside the building (no would have a chance to escape) and many, many others.
As for the fire, they said most buildings are built to withstand fire for 2-3 hours. There was just an unpredictable amount of heat from all that fuel... no normal fire or plane crash would cause it.
Unfortunately, this was well planned.
