With increased safety and secruity comes more inconviences. It's a fair trade in my books too. A little inconvience is no big deal when it comes to increased safety and secruity. I would much rather be inconvienced than to have anything like this to happen ever again. The inconviences that you may be having to fly in the US will still be nothing compared to many other places around the world.
As for the cockpit door situation, they definitely need to make some changes. Although it's easier said than done. There are structural properties of planes that limit how sturdy the cockpit door can be. In addition, in many cases the hijackers don't actually need to bust the cockpit door down. They may threaten the lives of the crew or passengers to make the pilot or co-pilot open the door.
