I woke up on Tuesday to a news broadcast - seeing a building collapse somewhere in the USA. I saw a CNN header "America Under Attack". I though, so what? They're demolishing another big building, always good TV. Are they talking about concrete cancer ( rust of structural steel cabling in concrete pillons ) ? Shit, the reality didn't hit home till I saw that second plane slam into the WTC. The effect was devasting on me personally and many Australians. We have been glued to our TV's, radio and internet since. Australians consider America as a very close friend. We consider any attack on the USA, an attack on us and our values, and we would without hessitation support you guys to the hilt.
One thing that deeply disturbs me, is many posts expressing hate for Arabs in general. Saudi's are Arab, but you assume that the Afghan's are Arab. There are many tribes in Afghanistan. I have Afghan friends. They are not Arab, their language is very distinct - most speak Farsi ( Persian ). It is very different to Arabic. They are extremely distressed by the events in the USA. They consider the acts perpetrated most un-Islamic. They fled Afghanistan because of the holicaust perpetuated on their families by the Taliban. It is sad that they are tarred by us, with the brush of their persecuters in Afghanistan.
Noble Muslims refer to themselves, Christians and Jews as "People of The Book". I suggest any successful outcome to the conflict would involve a deep respect by us, of true Muslim values. How many of you guys have read the Koran? It's a challenge, but worthwhile. I am Christian, however I found reading the Koran very eye openning. The prophet Mohomed said that " all prophets that came before me should be respected and observed". Jesus Christ is a prophet accepted by Islam. You dismiss Islam at your and our peril. In the short term there is a necessity to seek overwhelming vengence, however, in the long term the only way to solve this conflict is through understanding and love.
