I am from St. John's Newfoundland and I know there were 27 planes land here and we only have a little over 1000 hotel rooms and on the local news we were asked to open the doors of our homes to the people on these planes so they could have a warm meal and a place to sleep and shower. That was at 6:00 when they put the hotline number up I finally got through to say that I had room for 3 people at 12:00 that night and I had my finger on the redial button the whole time.
We may be a small rock on the coast of Canada but in times of trouble we all pull together to try and help out. And I saw on the news the man that started to raise the money for Gander and newfies were more than grateful

)
A lot of this province is pretty poor since the fishery has vanished so we can't donate the money that we would like so this was our way of trying to help. Hope it helped a bit.
Our hearts and best wishes are with the families of people lost in the tragic events on Sept 11 2001. In all the years that I have lived in Newfoundland I have never seen an Amercian flag on any flag poles here till this week and now they are half mask all over.
God Bless America,our prayers and thoughts are with you.
This has hit me personally because my uncle does work at the Pentagon but he did manage to get out.
I thank you and your uncle for the letter I will print it off and bring it to the local news to let other Newfies know we were apprecaited.
Thank you again
