If you are looking for a combination of beach and historic sites like what Egypt has, I would highly recommend Cambodia which has ancient ruins (Angkor Wat) that will shortly become more popular than even the Pyramids as it is way more impressive in so many way and they have a beach town on the ocean or combine Cambodia with a tropical island resort in Thailand. You can fly to Bangkok and be at a place like the island of Ko Chang in the east on the way to Cambodia...It is dirt cheap and a wonderful cultural experience but it is not luxury amenities or easy travel but worth a few inconveniences to experience Angkor Wat...
