Leaders in the middle east (including osama) are not stupid. They studied the Vietnam War and know that guerruilla warfare is America's achillies heel.
They want to create a quagmire in Iraq, and so far they are doing a good job of it.
Consider this: there was a memo in the penatgon talking about the recent prison abuse photos and it said "these are the idiots that lost the war".
They already know the war is not winable in a military sense, but never-ending war means more power to the military and government leaders (see "1984" by George Orwell), so they will just keep it going and going and going.......until a few US cities get nuked.
