1) 500 bht is for airport departure tax. Everyone must pay that, you should know that.
2) Mosquito repellent for anywhere (not crawling bugs). It's worse outside of Bangkok, but you will get bit in Bangkok no doubt. "Yoong" means Mosquito in Thai.
3) Oh yes, Thais eat bugs. Not all, but more that enough to not kiss them. I know plenty of bug eating Thais, and the further outside the cities you get, the more they eat them. Regardless of when it took off, or why they eat them, they eat them and that's enough for me.
