New hardware

I saw this product on ScrennSavers earlier today.

called the "Rocket Drive"

It's a solid state HD that uses standrad DIMMs as storage. couple of pro's like

Faster (about seven times faster than a 10000 RMP drive)

No noise at all

now waiting for drives to settle on startup

And it's on a standard PCI card

Cons

External power source (AC adapter to plug into the back, but data is lost if the UPS fails)

Cannot boot from it

Price about $1800 for a 1 gig drive $1000 for screensavers viewers

Drive already come populated so you can't add more unless it's thier brand

but from what they said on the show the cons are being worked on, like a battery power source, boot issues, ect...
looks like we might not be using scsi drives for too much long if things keep going at this rate. of course it's not a new idea Quantum had solid state HDs like this but thats when memory cost $300 for a SIMM.

what do ya think?
