What's an Oreo?

I was at dinner the other night and some friends of mine got into a discussion about the correct definition of an "oreo." NO NOT THE COOKIE!

one person claimed it was a black guy who acted like he was white, or was 'white' on the inside.

the other claimed it was a person with one white parent and one black parent.

neither of them felt it was a derogatory term. So they asked the waitress what she thought. As I sunk into my seat with embarrasement, she started talking to them about how she 'doesn't even think of things like that' and blah blah blah this and blah blah blah that. She, clearly, was of the same opinion that I was ... that it's more of a racial slam, but suggests the person has one white and one black parent.

opinions?
