Stones didnt stick to one genre either. They have rock, jazz, reggae, blues songs and so on. We can argue for decades since I'm fan of both
I wouldn't call them pop myself too. I hear many people calling beatles like the first pop group, but as you said that limits them a lot. We gotta stick to rock n' roll title
