Wow. You seriously believe that 50% of Americans have been out of north america? Remember that a lot of americans think they need a passport to go to Hawaii.

No ... most of those passports are obtained for trips to Canada and Mexico; whether or not they are necessary. I would be surprised if the actual number of Americans to leave north-america (excluding trips to US-owned islands) was higher than 15%.
