MSRP on a stock M3 for 2004 is $48K which fits exactly between the pricing for the boxster and boxster S, plus all of the options that you can add as extras to increase the price are purely luxury, nothing to do with the cars performance or power, it is definitely the same price range. I'd take an M3 personally over a boxster
