Download the lastest Divx codec. 4.12 I believe. Install it.
Then go to virtualdub.org and get the latest version.
Open the program, then open the movie file you want to convert...it has to be either an .mpg or an .avi
On the main virtualdub screen, go to the video tab, then to compression. If you installed Divx, you should see it here under the codecs. Choose it and hit ok. You can fuck with the settings, but you really don't need to tweak them that much unless you want a really small, grainy clip.
Next, go to the File tab, then to "Save AVI"
Enter the file name to save it to, and hit ok. Viola! That's it.
