In many ways you are correct. The crusades were christian against Isalm and Jews. The golden age of Islam saved the knowledge of the Greeks and Romans when the barbaric christians of Europe tried to destroy all non christian knowledge.
The jews and muslims have a long history of mutual acceptance. Why has it come to this?
Zionism was a concept of european jews going back to Palistine. The post WW2 west embraced the idea because it encouraged jews to leave europe where as you say they were never accepted. Not all Jews are Zionists but after WW2 no place in the world wanted the jewish survivors Israel was a survival tactic that has gone bad.
The current government of Israel is as bad as the current government of Palistine and until new players are there no peace can happen. I am certain that most people on both sides of the divide just want to live their lives without death all around them.
