When your client insists on something, pacify them with some lame version of what they "think" they want. Meantime, step it up a notch and deliver an alternative that exceeds every expectation they may have ever conceived of.

Also, when shadowing, or especially when working with darker tones, if you work during daylight hours, double check your work at night for proper tone and invisibility, regardless of how badass you think your screen is. What you see may not necessarily be what you see.

Also, when you join/mask, make sure your target image is bitmapped (if previously masked) to achieve full transparency and avoid an unnecessary background cut.

Rule number 1: if your client doesn't know there might be color shifts on the web, buy his shitty monitor and color card and design for him or educate the client and make everyone happy
