Like perhaps with those bastions of democracy Iran & Iraq?? Its not so easy staying friends with a country when their dictators/monarchs have a habit of being overthrown or just changing their policies on a whim to suit their own internal agendas or egos..
There are also many other examples and uses for US support of Israel - like when the US asked israel not to sell a certain item of military hardware to china and israel agreed - resulting in a demand for $$$$millions in compensation from china not to mention the loss of $$$ from the sale itself..
..or when the allies were bombing iraq and iraq responded by bombing israel - israel did not retaliate despite the daily missile attacks in the heart of israeli cities..
and remember that israel destroyed iraqs nuclear reactor many years before the gulf war setting back their nuclear 'ambitions' considerably - imagine what could have happened if iraq had developed nuclear weapons back then or even now..
israel IS the only democracy in the middle east and so the only country that any other democracy can really trust.. its no coincidence that turkey - a muslim country - is actually allied with israel - they are the closest democracy to the middle east and also fiercely secular with a strong military that intends it to stay that way..
