Damn, my grandpa gave me his old Reel-to-Reel, too. I don't have any idea where it's at now, maybe my parents house some where. The only tapes I ever had were bootlegs of his band playing and telling stories at somebody's house. Funny shit.
He also gave me a huge two-channel tube amp built in the 50's. It's all steel outside, about 2 feet tall, and used to power an opera house his band bought and played in during the seventies. The thing is just so wild looking...and it still works. Not exactly Hi-Fi though.
I think my Grandma still has 2 or 3 big "Console" style stereos in different rooms of her house. You know, the 4 ft. wide wooden ones, tube powered with the flip up lids. One of them is a reel-to-reel, 8-track, and turntable all in one. The thing looks like brand new.
