I made quiite a bit of money with XPics at the time, and I even worked for them in Webmaster Relations briefly, until I was caught discussing their tactics with my coworkers, which got me canned.
Even so, the shaving, if it took place, took place behind closed doors.
It did become curious, though, how "good" my traffic was at one time and how "bad" it was at other times. Hmmmm.
