AlienQ, that's a two-fold sword. The American people allow this shit to happen because so many of them are 'in on the scam' and let the attornies do this shit. Crime is America's big business machine.
We lie about it through our teeth but still let every damned scam and ripoff we can muster get through the cracks, put an umbrella on it and run and hide when the heat comes down. People only get arrested when they louse up a crime, not because they're committing a crime.
The crime statistics are abominable. Even our government has committed heinous crimes against us for profit and vindictiveness.
If you really want a scare check out the mind control experiments from the 50's on up til now. Freakin' evil-ass-shit to say the least.

In addition, look at Los Angeles. The most undermanned police dept. with millions of people at the hands of gangs that have been around for decades.
