"If you've been diagnosed with hepatitis C, you may have asked your doctor for the special blood test that detects it -- a very responsible move that, depending on the stage of your disease, may help save your liver from serious damage and could even save your life. Chances are you requested the test after becoming aware that this form of hepatitis is increasing rapidly around the world -- and may produce few or no symptoms until significant liver damage has occurred. Now, for your family's and friends' protection, they should also be tested for this contagious disease. "

Make sure that you request the RNA testing as it is FAR more accurate. The standard blood tests only test for the presence of the HepC anti-bodies that your body produces...not the disease itself

"Unlike hepatitis A and B, previous infection with HCV does not produce immunity. "

That is complete BullShit!! If you are one of the lucky people that get over Hep C you CAN"T get it again. The reason most people are unable to cure themselves of Hep C is that the disease mutates so quickly your bodies antigens are unable to keep up. According to the latest research available up to 50% of people that contract Hep C are now curing themselves.

"Finally, everyone known to be infected with HCV should avoid alcohol -- to prevent further liver damage -- as well as certain medications that also can affect the liver. Your doctor can tell you which medications are safe for you and which you should avoid. "

...and red meats...and any fatty foods..etc.... if you have Hep C you want to avoid ANYTHING that can tax your liver.

There is a lot of outdated and completly wrong info on the net about Hep C.

if you have tested positive for it GO SEE A SPECIALIST.

All of the info posted above I got was from a Dr. here in Toronto that runs a Liver Clinic and is the ackowledged leader in Hep C research.
