Human emotion gets in the way of things.

Prosecutors are supposed to "prove beyond a reasonable doubt" but in high profile murder cases there's too much pressure. Not just on juries but on investigators and prosecutors. Careers and promotions are on the line. The jury has to see the victim's family in the court room, everyone wants justice etc.

All too often an easy target gets pinned whether they're guilty or not.
