1) Because it's a business driven by money (one hit wonder after one hit wonder for the big payoff)
2) Because it's a business driven by image rather than music (many 70's groups wouldn't get a record deal now, because their members too "ugly" for tv)
3) Because a switch to 24/7 music tv stations forced companies to keep pushing new material to keep people watching their music tv station. If they didn't we'd complain that they keep playing the same tired videos.
4) Because all the best melodies, riffs, voices, and songs have already been recorded. Music has no real future, every genre and cross genre has been exhausted. You can't have a better rock group than Zeppelin, a better reggea group than The Wailers, a better singer than Otis Redding.
