I don't understand why this is such a big deal. If 17% had voted for a communist party nobody would care. Afterall it is a democracy and people have the right to vote for whatever party they want.
Besides that, if there is everything right with france, people wouldn't vote for a right wing man/party, so try to check what problems in france have caused that so many people voted for le pen.
Btw., many of those that voted for jospin will vote for chirac on may 5th and everything will be fine again.
