One more thing to try as a last resort before you format c: -- but be ready to format c: because it's easy to mess this up.

On most recent windows OSs, there is something called a "system file checker" that lets you go through and verify the integrity of all your system files, restoring any that have been corrupted, deleted, etc. It sounds to me like when you deleted your program, an ill-behaved uninstaller took system files with it.

Different OSs have different formal ways of getting you into the system file checker, but the actual program is sfc.exe and you can just hit the start button, select Run, and type sfc.exe into the box. From there, just follow the prompts with care, because they are a little confusing and not really designed for the end user.

SFC.EXE is a great little system rot repairer. It doesn't always work, but when it does it's pretty sweet. Good luck!
