This happened over the weekend here in Phoenix....
A Maricopa County man was taken to a hospital Saturday night to have his stomach pumped after telling police he bit off and swallowed the thumb of his 2-year-old son.
According to investigators, Raymond Jones, 39, was on the phone while at home with his wife and four children in the12700 block of West Glendale Avenue. After handing the phone to his wife, Jones picked up his son Robert and walked out of the home. The Sheriff's Office received calls at about 8:20 p.m. about a man walking naked along Glendale Avenue. Deputies arrived to find Jones nude on the street and his son naked and missing a thumb.
"When we put the dad in custody and start talking to him, he tells us that he bit his son's thumb and swallowed it," Sgt. Bill Knight said.
Robert was immediately taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Hospital. Deputies took Jones to the hospital so doctors could pump his stomach to possibly find the thumb and reattach it.
Knight said that if Jones would not comply, county officials would seek a search warrant for bodily evidence, including the thumb and any signs of substance abuse.
