Guys, sure, saying that there will be no murders if there were no guns is oversimplifying things.
But:
It's very much easier to point a gun and pull a trigger, than getting up close and personal and, for instance, sticking a knife in someone, or strangling someone, or beating their brains out with a baseball bat.
Holding a gun makes the killing a very detached, impersonal thing. A kid could do it. A kid just did.
Also, a gun being the efficient killing weapon it is, it's a lot easier to wipe out a whole bunch of people with a gun, than it is with a knife or a baseball bat.
If that kid walked into that school building today with a knife or a baseball bat, there wouldn't have been as many deaths. With a grenade, maybe more, but they aren't that easy to come by.
I grew up in a very violent country, and I grew up with guns. I can handle a gun, but I'm very happy that I now live in a country with strict gun-laws. I have a healthy respect for guns, and a pretty healthy fear as well, because I've seen too many accidents happen.
