At it's base, video editing is no different from any other thing you do with a computer, learn the program and do the thing.
But like Maya, Photoshop, or any programming language, the skill isn't in the running of the program, but in ART. You could literally teach a monkey to cut video, but that monkey couldn't handle problems or make your video into something other than just cutup videos.
More importantly, if you have spent thousands of dollars on talent, equipment, locations, and help, why would you want to try to go the cheapest route to have someone just slap it together?
Hands up all the video editors who hve actually taken some training!
