One thing that is true about the Chinese is that despite often being well educated they generally know nothing about history. When I mention to my mainland friends that Taiwan can be argued to actually be a Japanese possession as it was ceded by treaty to Japan in 1895. The allies promised to give Taiwan to the Chinese in 1943 in exchange for their continued participation in the war.

Most mainland people know NOTHING about this.
