Lighter ban will be enforced on airplanes
LITTLE ROCK (AP) ? The Transportation Security Administration will begin cracking down on air travelers nationwide who are carrying cigarette lighters in sterile areas of airports and onboard airplanes. The strict enforcement of the Intelligence and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 will begin Thursday.
"TSA is moving quickly to implement this provision passed by Congress," said Rear Adm. David M. Stone, the assistant secretary of Homeland Security for TSA. "By creating policy to add lighters to the Prohibited Items List we are closing a potential vulnerability in air travel security."
