There are 2 key phrases I am always equipped with in order to deal with situations like this.
1. Let me speak to your supervisor.
2. I want the telephone number to your corporate office.
Seriously when I deal with ignorance like this I shut down and just repeat these phrases over and over until they either send out the supe or give me the number.
If they send out a supervisor and he's as stupid as the person behind the counter...once again I ask that supervisor to let me speak to THEIR supervisor.
I do this all the way up the corporate ladder until I get satisfaction which is about 98% of the time.
I remember one time I was trying to purchase something at a store and the clerk tried to claim the price tag had been switched..it was a clearance item and was the only one left. The manager wouldn't sell it and customers behind me were arguing with the manager as well..LOL anyway I told them to give me their supervisors # and to put that behind the counter because I would be coming back to buy that at the price on the tag....oh you should have seen the look on their faces when I was back in 30 minutes after a phone call to the corporate office. Sweet justice. ;)
