Does anyone want to comment on how this will affect webmasters that ARE NOT US citizens but host sites in the USA.

Also if there is anyone in the UK that knows of a good lawyer that is fully clued up on 2257 please cna you let us know on info @ onlytease.com.
Our own company lawyer is going through it now, but on his own admission he is a corporate lawyer for UK laws, and feels this really needs someone who is more of an expert in this area to comment on correctly.

Cheers all.

Paul

PS. and just to clarify we have all model ids etc just not sure how /what we need to do re 2257.

Hi Paul

Yea.. hear where you are at.

The bottom line is... it is better you are out of the US as far as hosting is concerned. If you are hosting in the US when the amended 2257 is effective, you are obliged to follow the laws of the US.

If you default, they won't be prosecuting you (just unenforceable), but they can close down your server after some hearings.

There are other issues... you mentioned the photo ID's etc. The Data Protection Act in the UK will most likely be in effect when it comes to the question of providing model "real names" and home addresses under USC 2257.
I've already raised this issue with models and there is almost 100% total refusal to allow their personal data to be passed out to whoever. BTW.. This was with UK models - not sure of the origin of your content.

Rest assured, USC 2257 is not the end of the story and other laws/amendments will follow.

Frankly, you are better off out of it - you can do this, - it's US webmasters who are kinda stuck with the baggage.

Course.. it's got nothing to do with protecting children - we would almost all agree to that - it's just more bs.
