When I bought a PSP for my son and told the clerk I didn't need or want the extended plan she went into this rude fit about it like I was stupid not to pay the extra money. I've been buying Sony products for decades and have never had a problem with any.
Then he went into the same dead pixel pitch. So I think they're all using this tactic to scare people into the warranty deal. Its BS. Don't fall for it.

Soooo true dude. I bought a new plasma TV last month and before we even decided on the model there were 2 sales guys hard selling the service plan
Extended warranties are the dirty side of brick and mortar retail. I hate the whole game.
