I always assumed we're all already dead, and this is hell. Newborn babies are actually people who were "evil" in their past life, and are now suffering here in, or on, this shithole. Notice I put evil in quotation marks, as it would seem commiting an "evil" act can be as easy as fucking outside of wedlock
