Well I suppose this is what I get for taking a couple hour lunch today.
The few times that I've met Baddog he's been a gentleman, good for conversation and it's obvious that he works hard at what he does. I saw the thread where he thanked NatNet for their hospitality the other day and I'm sure it was well deserved. It's obvious that humility is one of his finer qualities although it doesn't seem yet to be one of yours. NatNet is tremendously hospitable to our industry and they're a fine group that does an excellent job with hosting... and hell, NOBODY throws a party like them!
I've got a whole bunch of respect and thanks out there to NatNet. Want to pick a fight with me?
Poking fun at his business model? Come on. It's about the customer, silly. At my hosting company just as at every one of my competitors we all get requests from clients that are looking for large or diverse IP assignments. What they do with them is their business and I'm not to be the judge of that unless they are doing something abusive in which case I would make that my business.
To suggest that he's praying on newBs is rediculous! Of all the clients that I have who have unique requirements for their IP space the vast majority of them are veterans. I am sure they would like this thread because as far as they are concerned, the less people doing what they are doing furthers their opportunity.
We had a chat in San Diego about GotWebHost and I thought the idea was teriffic. Some clients like to be spread out across multiple providers, data centers, C blocks, etc and it seems his product is capable of doing that. To suggest that he's not a real hosting company is absurd. If they are supporting and maintaining their clients at multiple colocation facilities all the more power to them! That is a big undertaking. If I had a client whose needs were exactly that and we couldn't provide a solution I would gladly refer them over. Is the business brilliant by design, will it be around for the long run? Only time will tell! I hope for his sake that it is a tremendous success. If he works hard, smart and does right by his clients then there is no reason why he won't have his place long term with his niche product.
My point? Well, we haven't done business yet but I think Baddog seems to be a good person that is committed to his clients and his own business. Having multiple businesses and revenue streams isn't a crime, it's one of the best qualities that entrepreneurs possess.
This thread is mean-spirited (unless I'm missing some impetus for it) and lacking any real substance.. It seems to only be accomplishing the goal of providing you with some visibility and most likely him with some new business. If you don't like him, this was a bad thread to start! LOL
It's not the people that post in GFY threads that are always the ever important ones... there is a silent majority that watches and makes their own decisions as the flighty ones eat each other alive.
Cheers,
Brad
